Eat these snacks before your workout and see the magic!

A healthy diet and a regular fitness schedule go hand in hand. With the varied amount of classes and fitness routines that have taken over today, it isn’t so difficult to stay focused and do a workout you enjoy. However, what goes into your system before and after your workout is what will help you gain maximum results. Workout snacks are important and its time you knew why!

Pre-Workout :

You need energy to have energy to have an effective workout, so let your pre-workout snack help you. What works for you could differ for each individual, however, a good thumb rule is to have lots of carbs mixed with little protein. The ideal time frame is 30 mins to 3 hours before your workout. You may need to do a few trials to see what is most effective. Here are a few good options :

  1. Hummus with Baked Pita Chips
  2. Blueberry + Banana Protein Smoothie
  3. Caprese Avocado Toast with Cottage Cheese
  4. Apple + Peanut Butter Energy Bites
  5. Trail Mix
Post Workout :

Your body uses stored energy in your muscles to power through your workout. But after that workout, you need to replenish the lost nutrients. As soon as possible post workout, get some carbs and protein into your system. This time make sure your protein intake is more than the pre-workout snack. This helps your body regain it’s lost energy and helps rebuild and repair your tired muscles after an intense workout. Also, remember to rehydrate enough. The ideal post workout snacks are:

  1. 2 Baked Multigrain Chips + 1 Tbsp of Peanut Butter.
  2. Peanut Butter + Chocolate Protein Shake
  3. Yoghurt with Fresh Berries and Banana Slices
  4. Green Smoothie
  5. Baked Sweet Potatoes
Key points to remember:
  1. Your body needs carbs to fuel your working muscles.
  2. Protein is there to help build and repair muscles.
  3. Get a combination of protein and carbs in your body 1-3 hours before workout and within 20 minutes after workout.
  4. Never try anything new on race/game day. It’s best to experiment during training to see what is most effective for your body.
