How to get back on track after an indulgent weekend
MAY 08, 2019
Motivation is a fickle thing. You may workout and eat healthy for three days in a row and then decide to reward yourself with some pani puri or laddus, and before you know it you find that one laddu turned to three and you still haven’t stopped eating. Overeating every once in a while, is a human tendency and is really not something we should obsess and ruin our day over. Instead it is important that we forgive ourselves and look forward to the next time we can eat healthy. Here are simple tips to get back on track after an indulgent binge.
Go for a walk
Any movement is good for you. Any sort of physical exercise, even something as simple as taking a walk releases serotonin and makes you feel better. Walking also helps reduce bloating and helps begin the fat burning process. Instead of beating yourself up, go for a walk, it will clear your mind, make you feel better and put you back on the path to a healthier body.
Stay hydrated
Drinking water helps speed up metabolism, makes you feel full, and temporarily increases the calories you burn while being stationery. While it may be the last thing you want to do, drinking water is good for you and can help you get back on track to a healthy lifestyle.
Take a nap
Yes, we are endorsing taking a nap to give you better health and aid in your weight management journey. Studies have shown that sleep deprivation leads to people making worse decisions and overeating. If you are unable to get an entire 8 to 9 hours at night then it is recommended that you try to fit in short naps throughout the day.
Don’t skip meals
This too is related to our human tendency of beating ourselves up and trying to compensate for the binge by skipping meals. This can actually be counterproductive, leading to an increase in hunger and making us overeat. Stick to a regular eating pattern and munch on healthy snacks to successfully meet your healthy eating goals.
Get rid of trigger foods
Give away that remaining batch of chocolate chip cookies, swap that batch of potato chips for whole grain chips and replace those laddus with a healthier coconut laddu. It is hard for us to say no to certain foods so it’s important to remove all temptation from your home! Keeping them around makes it very easy for you to cheat on your diet again. It is important that you get rid of these trigger foods and stock up on healthy snacks which you can binge on without any guilt.
Slipping up and cheating on your diet can be frustrating and lead to more slip-ups. As unbelievable as it might sound, slipping up once will not affect your diet and goals. Cheat meals exist because you cannot always eat healthy. However, if you beat yourself up over messing up your diet you will find that you have gained weight instead of losing it. The most important aspect of a healthy diet is to forgive yourself.
