Exam season is fast arriving, and rushing about with last minute revisions is almost a given. Devouring textbooks and piles of notebooks scribbled with text is synonymous with examinations, but in order to give it your best shot, just studying isn’t enough.
Scientific evidence proves that the food you fuel your body with directly affects your day to day activities. Since examinations on their own bring along a lot of stress, the importance of fueling your body with the right food cannot be stressed on enough. With at least a month to go before the dreaded exams arrive, you have enough time to get your body up to speed.
So, ditch those cans of sodas and energy drinks, throw away those extra large cups of coffee and read on to know how to prep your body for exam season.
1. Walnuts
If you believe in remedies that have been passed on from one generation to the next, you’ve heard this about a hundred times before – Eating foods that resemble organs of the humans body, are actually beneficial to those organs.
And no points for guessing which organ a kernel of walnut looks like. Your brain! Walnuts are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, which are crucial for the functioning and growth of your brain. They also help your brain process and store information at a faster pace, and boost anti-inflammatory activities in your brain while releasing some amounts of serotonin.
2. Apples
The remedy for all ailments, the one secret ingredient that is said to keep doctors away – Apples! This magical fruit contains acetylcholine, a chemical that increases movement and sensory perception. Due to its high nutrient density, it is known to reduce anxiety and calm your nerves. Another study showed that students who consumed an apple for lunch, had a 7 point increase in tests scheduled post lunch.

3. Eggs

4. Turmeric

Taken in the form of dry powder or fresh root, its active ingredients are curcumin and turmerone. Curcumin increases levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor, a protein that stimulates the growth of new brain cells.
5. Dark Chocolate
So here’s a treat for you! According to research, dark chocolate or chocolate that contains 70 – 90% cocoa, is rich in fiber, iron and magnesium, nutrients that help your brain regulate blood flow. The flavonols found in chocolate increase blood flow, while helping your heart function better and is known to improve one’s memory. It also contains stimulants like caffeine and theobromine, which makes dark chocolate better than coffee!
